Dishmaster parts

My wife is committed to Dishmaster. Two homes; one at each home. "How can you do dishes without it?" So, it's up to me to keep them in good working order and that's why only three stars. DM parts are really expensive for what you get and there is always a shipping charge. In this particular case I paid about $32 for two short pieces of plastic tubing with a diameter roughly the size of a coffee stir stick. One piece had two micro-holes drilled into it to accommodate the uptake from the soap tank and the other had a short, copper J-hook attached to it. In both cases the original tubing had hardened with age and would no longer seal as they must for the device to work. Most parts are similarly priced (or, in my view, overpriced) and there are no alternatives since almost every single part is proprietary. Loews, Home Depot and your local plumbing store are not only useless but if you ask for DM parts they most often will stare at you like they suspect you left your flying saucer in the parking lot. The product as a whole is really quite nice but I am reminded of a video I watched once about replacing a proprietary part on a Mercedes automobile. The part, a washer specific to this particular MB, was $12 for a rubber ring the size of a nickel and the installation was over $300. So there you are -- nice product, works well until it doesn't and then you get to decide whether to repair it or replace the whole thing.

We feel compelled to respond to your review: 1) It is unlikely the PJ2017 Vent Tube needs replaced unless it has broken. It is a fairly rigid tube and is not expected to be flexible. (2) The tube of the PA2085 Detergent Tube Assembly can lose flexibility over time, primarily due to water conditions. Very often an inch can be cut from the end and the tube be reconnected. Contrary to the 'lack of availability' stated in your review, if the tube needs to be replaced it can be purchased at nearly any hardware or home center. Our local Ace Hardware charges $.39 per foot. 3) There is no such thing as free shipping. It is either built into the cost of the product or charged separately. One way or the other, the consumer bears the cost. 4) We encourage our customers to contact us for assistance. We are here to help and are available Monday-Thusday 8am-4pm EST and Friday 8am-2pm EST at 1-800-521-9234. Bottom line, your repair could have been made at a cost of about $2.00 and a trip to the store.
