K0076 Tune-up Kit

Water supply valves need not be shut off. Remove lime and calcium deposits prior to disassembly. Use white vinegar or a commercially available product. Use NSF-61 certified silicone (plumber's) grease to lubricate all O-rings, X-rings, threads and moving parts before reassembly.

These repairs do not need to be made in one session. Please note the instructions in BOLD Print along the way if you choose to break the repairs into multiple sessions.

Diverter Assembly Instructions

Remove Spout and Diverter Components

  • Remove screws from valve handles.
  • Pull valve handles forward to remove.
  • Remove knurled retaining rings.
  • Remove cover and face plate forward to remove.
  • Pull hose and retaining clips from the cover slot.
  • Pull plastic tube with spring from detergent tank.
  • With spout pointing straight forward, lift tank to remove.
  • Unscrew knurled spout retaining ring. Pull spout straight up to remove.
  • Pull diverter knob up to engage locking tabs while turning knob counter-clockwise.
  • Remove all diverter parts from spout - make certain that X-rings are removed from the spout.
  • Remove O-ring and red lock ring from spout base.
  • Thoroughly clean spout base - inside and out.

Assemble Diverter in this order as Shown

  • Seal
  • Spring
  • Retainer - small end toward, and inside of, spring
  • Two (2) X-rings

Assemble and Install Spout

  • Place knurled spout retaining ring on spout - un-threaded end first.
  • Place O-ring in bottom groove.
  • Install red lock ring in middle groove - flat side up / tapered side down.
  • Insert assembled diverter into spout - push diverter in until threads project through top of spout - triangle must be aligned in hole.
  • Screw diverter knob clockwise onto the threads - pull on diverter knob to engage locking tabs - finish tightening knob
  • Pull on knob to hold diverter assembly up into spout - triangle must be aligned in hole
  • Seat spout into the faucet body while continuing to hold diverter up.
  • Tighten knurled spout retaining ring

If you are making all repairs in one session, proceed to "Tank Instructions". Otherwise, proceed with "Install Cover except handles".

Install Cover except handles

  • With spout pointing straight forward, set tank onto faucet.
  • Attach plastic tube with spring to front of tank.
  • Place hose with retaining clips in the cover slot.
  • Place cover with faceplate on the faucet.
  • Screw cover retaining rings onto the faucet - coat both internal and external threads with NSF-61 certified silicone (plumber's) grease before attaching - hand tighten ONLY.
Replace Handles
  • These instructions are for the hot side. Cold side instructions are in parenthesis ( )
  • With the lever at the 6:00 o’clock position, push the handle straight onto the stem.
  • Rotate the handle counter-clockwise (clockwise for cold) until water flows.
  • Slowly rotate the handle clockwise (counter-clockwise for cold) until the water just stops flowing. Do NOT over tighten.
  • Without rotating the handle, pull the handle straight off the stem.
  • While the handle is still pulled off, rotate the handle to place the lever in the 9 o'clock position (3 o'clock for cold)
  • Push the handle straight onto the stem to fully engage the spline.
  • Replace the screw.
  • If water drips from spout, see Adjust Handles procedure.

Adjust Handles

  • These instructions are for the hot side. Cold side instructions are in parenthesis ( )
  • Check the temperature of the water that is dripping from the spout to determine whether it is the hot or cold handle that needs adjusted.
  • Remove the screw from the handle.
  • Turn the handle clockwise to the 9:00 o'clock closed position (counter-clockwise to 3 o'clock for cold)
  • Without rotating the handle, pull the handle straight off the stem.
  • While the handle is still pulled off, rotate the handle counter-clockwise one notch (clockwise for cold) - one notch only. Do NOT over tighten.
  • Push the handle straight onto the stem to fully engage the spline.
  • Turn the handle clockwise to the closed position (counter-clockwise for cold)
  • Reinstall the screw.

If the drip has slowed but not stopped, repeat the procedure or check to see if it is the other side that is causing the drip.

Follow this procedure anytime in the future that a drip from the spout develops.  Being careful to NOT over tighten the stems will greatly extend the life of the bibb washers.

Tank Instructions follow.  Proceed to M76 or M76XL as appropriate for your faucet.

M76 Tank Instructions

Water supply need not be shut off for this repair. One of the springs will not be used for this repair.

Remove Cover and Tank

  • Remove screws from valve handles.
  • Pull valve handles forward to remove.
  • Remove knurled retaining rings.
  • Pull cover and faceplate forward to remove.
  • Pull hose and retaining clips from the cover slot.
  • Pull plastic tube with spring from detergent tank.
  • Pull plastic tube with spring from flared copper.
  • With spout pointing straight forward, lift tank to remove.

Reassemble

  • Place tank on faucet.
  • Cut replacement plastic tube to 4-3/4" length.
  • Insert spring into plastic tube.
  • Attach plastic tube with spring to flared copper on detergent hose.
  • Attach plastic tube with spring to detergent tank.
  • Small hose segment must face front of faucet.
  • Reassemble cover but do NOT yet replace handles.

If you are making all repairs in one session, proceed to "Valve Stem Assembly Instructions". Otherwise, go to "Replace Handles".

M76XL Tank Instructions

Water supply need not be shut off for this repair.

Disconnect Plastic Tube

  • From beneath the sink, pull plastic tube with springs from flared copper fitting.

Remove Cover and Tank

  • Remove screws from valve handles.
  • Pull valve handles forward to remove.
  • Remove knurled retaining rings.
  • Pull cover and faceplate forward to remove.
  • Pull plastic tube with springs from detergent tank.
  • With spout pointing straight forward, lift tank to remove.

Reassemble

  • Place tank on faucet.
  • Insert springs into plastic tube.
  • Attach plastic tube with springs to flared copper fitting beneath sink.
  • Attach plastic tube with springs to detergent tank.
  • Reassemble cover but do NOT yet replace handles.

Valve Stem Assembly Instructions

Water supply MUST be shut off. Remove lime and calcium deposits prior to disassembly. Use white vinegar or a commercially available product. Lubricate all O-rings and threads with NSF-61 certified silicone (plumber's) grease before reassembly.

K0858 Torque-free Valve Stem will fit M87 only after original valve stems have been replaced with K1078 hot water valve stem and K1079 cold water valve stem.

The following instructions are for hot side. Cold side instructions are in parenthesis ( )

Disassemble

  • Close hot water (cold water) supply valve.
  • Remove screw from handle.
  • Remove handle.
  • Remove cover retaining ring.
  • Remove valve stem retaining cap.
  • Remove valve stem assembly from faucet.
  • Further disassemble valve stem assembly as needed to accommodate the parts you are replacing.

Reassemble

  • Screw stem into bushing, hold red bushing (blue for cold) turn stem counter-clockwise (clockwise for cold) until seated.
  • Snap torque-free valve stem end assembly onto stem.
  • Align tabs on bushing with slots in valve body, seat bushing fully into valve body - bushing MUST be fully seated in valve body.
  • Install valve stem retaining cap. Snug with pliers to make sure the cap is fully seated - do not over tighten, this is not a pipe thread.
  • Install cover retaining ring - hand tighten only.

Replace Handles

  • These instructions are for the hot side. Cold side instructions are in parenthesis ( )

Venturi, Button, Bushing Instructions

Water supply need not be shut off.

Disassemble Spray Tube and Handle

  • Unscrew nut from handle - if pliers are required, pad jaws with a cloth to prevent scratches.
  • Slide nut toward brush to expose bushing
  • Remove bushing
  • Slide handle back along hose and let red button drop out.

Remove Venturi Assembly 

  • Cut hose approximately 3/4” from shoulder of venturi.

Reassemble

  • Slide hose over barbs to shoulder of venturi - it may be helpful to lubricate barbs with small amount of detergent.
  • Rotate handle and hose so that button hole is down.
  • Drop button into button hole.
  • Slide handle over venturi - spring side of venturi MUST be toward button.
  • Lubricate taper tube with NSF-61 certified silicone (plumber's) grease
  • Place nut onto taper tube.
  • Slide bushing onto taper tube and into nut.
  • Slide nut with bushing to shoulder at end of taper tube.
  • Attach spray tube assembly - hand tighten nut.
  • Adjust direction of spray to desired position by rotating spray tube assembly.
  • Tighten nut just firmly enough to hold spray tube in desired position - if pliers are required, pad jaws with a cloth to prevent scratches.
